EVENTS: St Mary’s Church, Abergavenny, has The Horse in Oil painting by Ms Dalene West from Africa, and who is now in Swansea, on view to worshippers and visitors.

It was complemented by the vicar, the Rev Mark Soady, who has been at the church for six years after coming from a university in Newport.

The church will hold a Festival of Liturgical Music 2017 during a week-long festival celebrating the rich heritage of Liturgical Music.

“Each day of Evensong, we will celebrate a different century of liturgical music, with different choirs contributing throughout the week,” says Rev Soady.

Monday, August 28, will feature Choral Vespers (treble voices) at 6pm, and 7.30pm a choral compline for men’s voices.

On the next day, there will be a 1.15pm lunchtime recital with Tim Pratt (chamber organ), and at 5.30pm choral evensong for men’s voices.

On August 29, there is a lunchtime recital at 1.15pm with Tim Pratt on chamber organ, and at 5.30pm a choral evensong. There will be a lunchtime recital at 1.15pm on August 30 and a choral evensong at 5.30pm.

On August 31, at 1.15pm, there is a lunchtime recital with Jon Weller (tenor) and a choral evening at 5.30pm with Ethelbert Consort.

On September 1 at 1.15pm there is a lunchtime recital with Philip Aspden (organ) and a 5.30pm choral evensong with St Mary’s Priory Choir are also on the agenda.

On September 2, at 1.15pm, there is a lunchtime recital with mezzo-soprano Maggie Pratt, and at 5.30pm a choral evensong with the Priory Chamber Choir.

Finally, on September 3, at 6pm, there will be a choral evening, followed an hour later a choral recital by Icosa Choir, conducted by Luke Mather.

At 8pm there will be a bring and share buffet supper in the Priory Centre.
