Pupils from Llantilio Pertholey Primary School, Mardy, have raised £180 through the Foneclub mobile phone recycling initiative. Children and parents collected more than 70 mobile phones to raise money for their school through the initiative in conjunction with Corporate Mobile Recycling (CMR) CMR are running the Foneclub initiative to allow schools to raise valuable funds for resources through the recycling of mobile phones. At the same time Foneclub encourages an awareness of environmental issues and the importance of recycling. The 70 mobile phones that Llantilio Pertholey Primary School collected were of all shapes and sizes, some working and some not. These were collected by Foneclub, who paid £2.50 for each of the handsets, and recycled all of the broken and obsolete models. Schools recycling with Foneclub will not only raise funds, but will also be helping to protect the environment!

“It’s a really good scheme,” said Simon Oram, Year 3 teacher, who organised the project. “The children learnt a lot about the environment and how much pollution is created by a mobile phone. They also enjoyed searching around at home for old phones!”

Schools wishing to run a similar campaign can contact Jessica Hinchliffe on 0207 404 6440 for more information. Alternately visit www.foneclub.org.uk.
