A cheque for £1000 was presented to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity by the Rotary Club of Chepstow recently, to assist with the training and supply of further hearing dogs for the organization.
Charity representative, Marilyn Sydenham, accepted the donation, which is the result of fund raising events held over the last year for the immediate past President's nominated charity.
Nearly nine million of the UK's population experiences some degree of hearing loss. More than 650,000 of these people are severely or profoundly deaf and could benefit from a hearing dog.
Hearing dogs change lives. They alert their deaf owners to sounds most people take for granted, providing greater independence, confidence and security. Most are selected from rescue centres or donated as unwanted pets.
