My 16 year old son rides a moped...and I was shocked at the pathetic test they have to pass to ride on the roads....they should surely have at least a minimum of 10 lessons.plus do a theory like if you were doing a car test, as u need to know all the same information...how can a 16 year old learn all the signs and learn to ride a bike in 5 hours......pathetic

Sorry to hear that a rider has been knocked off his bike,as for people saying the tests need to be harder the drivers of cars and vans need to be educated to look out for motorbikes and cyclists and also need to know and realise that the little arms on the steering colums are indicators that other motorists can tell where they are going.Don't blame the biker as you the car driver do not look or let other motorist know where you are going by not using your indicators.

its not about tests its about common sense which the majority of bikers DO NOT have! countless times i have seen near misses because bikers think they can get away with cutting up cars and over taking them for example i was waiting at the traffic lights at the roundabout by the old rising sun as the lights went green a kid on a moped over took me in the same lane as me and i had to swerve out of the way not to hit him off! ,And its not the first time something like this has happened there a danger to themselves and the public!

Do you really think that 5 hours training for a moped is substantial enough training for anybody to go out on the roads..I don't....especially 16 year olds that no nothing....also, I do agree that a lot more people should use their indicators, I drive but I also do a lot of walking, with my baby.. And the times I have had to run across the road, because a car has not indicated they are turning, so I think it is safe to cross...especially by roundabouts....and then they give you a dirty look and shake their heads as if you are the one that has done something wrong....and also I am one person that does look out for bikers when I am driving...but these youngsters on mopeds that no nothing think they no everything and are invincible .....

Sad story, but I don't understand why you are talking about the dangers of cars vs mopeds. In this story it says he crashed into a parked car, which obviously wasn't moving...

My comment was stating the fact that, these youngest do not have substantial training to ride a bike, if they had to do more training he might have been able to handle his vehicle a bit better...so maybe this accident would not have happened...whether hitting a parked car or moving....he obviously was not in control...I hope he recovers well..

the moped was stolen and this boy crashed it into a parked car.there has been a spate of motor bike thefts from gardens in bettws. the bike was parked in the garden, chained to a fixing. the thieves cut the cable and carried the bike over the fence. the boy was seen riding up and down lambourne hill like an idiot with no regards for anyone.
