A SEBASTOPOL man has started his epic task of running five marathons in five days to raise money for Cancer Research.

Mark Quarterly, 41, a warehouse operative, is running from Newport to Cardiff and back every day for five days, covering a distance of 131 miles. He hopes to raise at least £2,000 for the charity.

Mr Quarterly was in the RAF for 12 years and has always run to keep fit.

He and his girlfriend Becky Jordan ran yesterday (Wednesday) dressed as zombies for Halloween.

Mr Quarterly said: "I’m just hoping I don’t scare any kids on my way to Cardiff and back!"

Mr Quarterly has two children from his first marriage, Alicia, 16, and Ryan, 12.

He said: "I don't think my children can believe I am going to this but they know it's for a good cause as my daughter's friend's mum recently died of cancer.

"They'll be coming to cheer me on.

"Becky has been such a great help to me, she's been brilliant and I couldn't do it without her. I've been well looked after when I get home from training."
