FOR most brides-to-be, the challenge of finding the perfect dress involves a very long shopping trip and a very light purse.

But it was a different story for Tredegar’s Marie Powles, who picked her wedding outfit from a charity bridal suite paying just £100 and helping people with cancer in the process.

Mrs Powles, who married husband Steven on August 25 at Tredegar Register Office, bought her dress from the Cancer Research Wales bridal suite, Cardiff, after hearing about it on the radio.

The Blaenau Gwent council worker said: “I didn’t want to pay an extortionate price for a dress that I was only going to wear for one day and we also wanted to keep costs down.

“The dress at the bridal suite was the first I tried on and after trying lots of dresses on at other shops, I knew that the first dress was ‘the one’ for me.

She added: “There is also the added bonus that the money from the dress contributes to Cancer Research Wales and can help towards the fight against cancer.”

Mrs Powles has since donated the dress back to the bridal suite.
