Gwent groups can get funds from police commisioner

FUNDS AVAILABLE: Ian Johnston the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent FUNDS AVAILABLE: Ian Johnston the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent

GROUPS in Gwent can apply for up to £5,000 funding from the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner next month.

Clubs, organisations or groups who help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour or divert people away from crime can apply.

The grants will be provided from the Police Property Act Fund, which the Commissioner is responsible for distributing.

Property which comes into the possession of the police in connection with a crime and where the owner cannot be found is sold, with the money kept in what is known as the Police Property Act Fund.

The same is true for property which has been forfeited by convicted people by order of a court, as it was used or intended for use in a crime.

Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner, Ian Johnston QPM, said: "As Gwent’s first Police and Crime Commissioner I am delighted to be able to offer a limited amount of funding support to the local community.”

Application forms and guidance can be obtained from www.gwent.pcc.police.uk, by calling the Commissioner’s office on 01633 642200, or by emailing Commissioner@gwent.pnn.police.uk before February 28.

Notification of successful bids will be sent out during March.
