Abergavenny pupils help to boost children’s charity
11:10pm Thursday 21st February 2013 in Gwent news
PUPILS at an Abergavenny school helped raise more than £450 by holding an educational event for a national children’s charity.
The pupils, who attend Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School, met Buddy the ChildLine mascot during an awareness session led by NSPCC school’s representative Fiona Meredith.
The event, which aimed to teach the children about personal safety, raised £480.33 for the NSPCC and ChildLine.
Head teacher, Sherri Davies, said: “We are always overwhelmed by the support we receive. This was a tremendous response by all our pupils and their families and friends.”
Ms Meredith added: “Such a sum makes a huge difference to our funds and our work with children and young people both locally in Wales and nationally.”
Every day thousands of children and young people need to contact ChildLine about a problem they face.
Hundreds of adults call the NSPCC helpline, worried about a child’s safety.
