Blaenau Gwent residents urged to help beat car crime
8:55pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in Gwent news
By Emma Mackintosh
RESIDENTS are being urged to help reduce car crime in Blaenau Gwent by parking in well-lit areas, removing radios and locking up.
After a number of reports of thefts from vehicles and damaged cars, Gwent Police will step up its covert patrols to try and catch those responsible. Sergeant Matt Briggs, who is leading the drive to reduce vehicle-associated crime, said: "I would like to ask people to report any suspicious activity to us and to take some precautions when parking their vehicle.
"You can help to protect your vehicle from vandalism by folding in the wing mirrors, or by parking in areas that are covered by CCTV. Make sure you remove all valuables from a vehicle when leaving it unattended.
"Please be reassured that your Neighbourhood Policing team is doing everything possible to reduce crime further and we are on regular patrols in your area," he said.
Residents can report any information or suspicious activity by calling 101, or sign up to Online Watch Link (OWL) at www.owl.co.uk.

Difficult to park in "well lit areas" when many street lights are turned off to save money! Off at a tangent, parking restriction should be relaxed, most people have to commute to work from Blaenau Gwent therefor they need a car our streets were made for horse and carts. Parking is very hard to find, people who take more space than required should be punished!
