COMEDY legend Tommy Cooper has been remembered for Comic Relief – in toast.

The artwork, made using toasted bread, Marmite and ketchup to create Caerphillyborn Mr Cooper’s famous fez, is by Ebbw Vale artist Nathan Wyburn.

Mr Wyburn, 23, said: “I was inspired to add the comical red nose dot using a computer after I saw Damien Hirst do the same with an image of his famous diamond skull.”

The artist, who has recently bought a garage in Ebbw Vale to convert into a studio space, achieved national fame with his portrait of Rupert Murdoch, made using 5,000 images of alleged phone-hacking victims.

Since then he has appeared on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent and BBC’s Blue Peter.

The fine art graduate is to present singer Charlotte Church with a toast portrait today before he jets off to Helsinki, where he will stand inside a transparent box, making portraits using ketchup.
