A man is in hospital in a critical condition after being assaulted in Newport city centre last night.
A service road near the Kingsway Centre car park has been sealed off as police launch an investigation into the attack at 9.45pm.
Police were called to reports of a 54-year-old man with injuries on Kingsway, Newport. Four men have been arrested.
A police spokesman said: "A 54 year old man had sustained a serious head injury and was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
“Four men aged 18, 51, 56 and 58 have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in police custody.”
Scenes of crime investigators are on the scene and the Kingsway car park remains open to the public.
