A GROUP of women are banding together to help beat breast cancer this weekend.
The 37 women of Verwood Concert Brass will be performing an ensemble with a difference this Saturday at the Memorial Hall in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Spokesman Robert Graves said: “Brass bands have historically been male dominated but an all female band formed from the ladies of Verwood Concert Brass will be performing a special concert called the Blushing Brass Charity Concert to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and band funds.”
The concert starts at 6.30pm and tickets are £6 including light refreshments. The ladies will be playing an entertaining range of music with the highlight being a new piece, never played in public before, called Easy on the Ear, Easy on the Eye, composed especially for the event by Derek Broadbent.
The band is also seeking sponsors for tables at the event, at £25, and pieces of music, at £20.
During the afternoon, from 2.30pm until 4.30pm, there will be a ladies’ charity sale open to the public in the hall with a whole variety of stalls.
