EBBW Vale will get a Royal visitor next month when the Prince of Wales comes to town.

His royal highness will meet staff and pupils at the launch of a scheme called Teach First at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community on July 3.

Prince Charles is patron of the charity, which trains and supports people with leadership potential to become teachers in schools in low income communities.

The scheme aims to challenge stereotypes about children from poorer backgrounds in a bid to make sure their education is not limited by their parents’ earnings.

Each year, the charity takes on a group of trainees who undergo six weeks intensive training before teaching in one of its partner schools for at least two years to achieve a post graduate certificate in education (PGCE).

In the past ten years 400,000 people have been taught by Teach First teachers and pupils in Ebbw Vale are set to be the next generation as the scheme is officially launched next month.

The visit is part of the Prince of Wales’ and the Duchess of Cornwall’s annual summer visit to Wales.

They will also visit the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff and will mark Dylan Thomas’s centenary year by visiting the boat house in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.
