PEOPLE in Hartlepool are continuing to ‘Love Where They Live’ as an anti-litter campaign begins to deliver results.

Residents living in Burbank Estate have seen litter picks carried out, while fly tipping and unruly gardens have been addressed to give the estate an instant uplift.

The campaign, which ran over three days, involved more than 30 volunteers from a variety of community groups.

They were joined by ward members Councillor Robbie Payne and Councillor Jim Ainslie as well as volunteers from Havelock Day Centre.

Coun Payne said: “This is an excellent initiative which is designed to encourage residents to take more pride in their neighbourhood and I support it wholeheartedly.”

Together the group took to the streets to litter pick, improve gardens and paint fences. Residents were encouraged to tidy up their gardens with the assistance of Housing Hartlepool caretakers who removed rubbish free of charge.

Alongside the clean-up work, the housing association’s neighbourhood team were on hand to provide tenancy advice and support on tackling anti-social behaviour, the Fire Brigade were available for advice on fire safety and the Police offered free UV marking on valuable items often prone to theft.
