TWENTY five fire fighters battled a house fire in Tredegar for almost three hours in the early hours of this morning.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to an empty semi-detached house on Waterworks Lane in Nantybwch at 1.57am, when the house was well alight.
The ground, first floor and roof space were severely damaged in the blaze, which was extinguished by fire fighters manning two jets, four pumps and a water bowser. Two officers also attended.
Six sets of breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera were used, as well as a seven-metre ladder and a light portable pump, said a spokeswoman for the fire service.
Officers will return to the scene this morning to ensure the fire is fully out.
The neighbouring property was evacuated while fire fighters tackled the blaze but it is not yet clear whether the fire spread.
The fire is believed to have been accidental but no cause has yet been established.
