ARGUS COMMENT: Joy to be part of Night of Honour

THE Night of Honour awards ceremony in Newport attracted hundreds of guests, all there to pay tribute to our city's unsung heroes.
From the outset let us say that we were delighted once again to be part of this annual event, now in its fourth year.
Organised by the King’s Church, the awards recognise people who are often the backbone of our communities.
Dozens of nominations were received, giving the judging panel the very difficult task of picking just 11 winners.
And what deserving winners they were.
Some were recognised for being exceptional good neighbours, others for setting up charities to tackle very specific and very real problems within our Newport community, and yet others for their hours of dedicated volunteering or fund-raising.
What award schemes like this do, is uncover the wealth of good work being done behind the scenes, away from the limelight and with little in the way of reward, by so many people.
Their efforts restore our faith in human nature and also illustrate that we have much to celebrate.
Their individual stories moved some of the audience to tears as they heard of people who dedicate so much of their time and effort to selflessly helping others.
What a fantastic evening and what a great way to highlight the work that each and every one of those nominated does, day in and day out.
We send our heartfelt thanks to them all.
