ARGUS COMMENT: Appalling club attack

WHAT AN APPALLING attack on Cwmbran bowls club.
The vandals broke into the pavilion, smashed windows and doors and went on to trash irreplaceable club memorabilia collected over many years. And what for?
We cannot understand for one minute what enjoyment the perpetrators get from carrying out such senseless attacks. Such behaviour beggars belief.
All they have succeeded in doing is ruining a community facility and, of course, the enjoyment of others.
Club chairman John Alford says the attack, which is not the first this year, has ripped the heart from the community.
And we can fully understand his anger and upset.
Members of the club work hard all year round to raise money to keep this facility going. It must have been soul-destroying to turn up to find such an awful mess.
Of course those responsible will probably not give the slightest thought to the consequences of their actions. Dealing with that of course will now be the responsibility of others.
But we hope they are caught and dealt with as harshly as possible by the justice system, if only to send a message to others that this sort of behaviour is just not acceptable.
And we send our best wishes to the members of the club in the hope that they can get their club up and running again as soon as practicably possible.
