Sci-fi fest lands in Newport

SPACEMEN, time travellers and monsters will be taking over The Riverfront, Newport this weekend in a literary invasion of science-fiction, fantasy and horror.
Organised by Literature Wales, the festival kicks off tonight with two talks: The Paupers Guide to science-fiction film-making and
Page to Screen, with Catherine Bray, who is currently editor of Film4.com.
But the majority of events are happening on Saturday, where there will be workshops, screening and author presentations. Highlights include a talk with Rhianna Pratchett on the world of narrative gaming and another with renowned novelist, Catherine Fisher.
Tomorrow morning, you can discover the real science behind Doctor Who with Mark Brake and Jon Chase and in the afternoon, Star Wars fans will have the opportunity to craft their favourite figures in a unique origami workshop.
Jasper Fforde, best-selling fantasy author who is also speaking on Saturday, said: "There are clearly not enough zombies or time travel in South Wales, and I am delighted to see Literature Wales addressing that imbalance."
