A PONTYPOOL pensioner’s knitted poppies have proved a big hit. Gill Swatton, 65, has started knitting them to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
She said: “I have always supported the British Legion so when I saw a pattern for a knitted poppy, I thought that’s something I can do.”
Two weeks ago, she made 30, with each one taking two hours, and in one week she sold out after placing them in the Sewing and Knitting Centre in Pontypool Market.
She said: “I will continue knitting poppies up until November, and selling them.” They are sold at £2 each.
