A BOGUS police officer conned a pensioner at a house in Abergavenny, stealing cash.
The man called at the house of an elderly man in Cantref Road between 7.30pm and 8pm on Friday night, purporting to be a police officer. He told him there had been thefts in the area and wanted him to check whether he had cash in the house.
The resident went into the house while the offender stayed on the doorstep and came back with some cash. The offender took it saying he would need to carry out further investigations.
The offender showed an identity card that had ‘Police’ on it and then walked down the road and turned right toward Chapel Road.
He is described as a white male, five-feet six inches tall, of medium build with short dark hair. He is about 30 years-old and wearing a long sleeved dark top and trousers.
Gwent Police are urging residents to be vigilant of anyone calling at their home and not to let anyone in without checking their identity with the organisation they say they are from.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log number 470 18/10/13
