A TEACHER who told sexually explicit stories to pupils at a Catholic school and tried to meet a student for sex has been struck off.
Lindsay Black, who taught at St Joseph’s RC High School in Newport, was not present at yesterday’s professional conduct committee hearing of the General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW), held in Cardiff.
The panel ruled that Ms Black had held sexually explicit and inappropriate discussions and had sent inappropriate and sexually explicit messages to a boy, known as pupil A, including discussing meeting up to have sex.
Despite hearing of her remorse from her representative David Browne, of NASUWT, the panel imposed an indefinite prohibition order banning her from teaching.
However, she can go through a determination hearing after five years when a different panel will decide whether she will be allowed to teach again.
Louise Price, presenting officer, said Ms Black admitted contacting pupil A on social media, and this amounted to unacceptable professional misconduct.
But she denied having any conversations despite being reported for telling explicit anecdotes about sex acts with her boyfriend; encouraging pupils to mimic sex acts; and asking pupils to identify themselves as virgins and described one girl as a lesbian, reducing her to tears.
Mr Browne said Ms Black had been naive and had had self-esteem issues.
