APPLICATIONS are being taken for a new Deputy Chief Constable for Gwent – with a six-figure salary for the successful candidate.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent is advertising for a “talented, enthusiastic and innovative” individual to join a small but influential team of chief officers.
The role came up after Jeff Farrar, who held the position of deputy from April 2011, was appointed as Chief Constable following the controversial retirement of Carmel Napier.
Her departure was confirmed in June 2013, after 30 years of service to the force.
The Argus exclusively revealed that the Gwent Police and Crime commissioner, Ian Johnston had told Mrs Napier to retire or be removed, after the contents of Mr Johnston’s memorandum were leaked to the newspaper.
The role will have a salary of £110,880 per year, plus a relocation package.
The closing date for applications is Friday, January 31, before the shortlist is announced on Wednesday, February 5.
