PEOPLE in Blaenau Gwent are expected to gather today to see a re-enactment of the crucifixion to mark Good Friday.

The Passion Play in Brynmawr attracts regular churchgoers and those keen to explore the real message of Easter.

Around 20 volunteers of the Valleys Family Church will act out their play, which starts in the Market Square, Brynmawr, at 2pm.

The 13th annual parade will make its way through the town.

Parts will be played out outside Roberts Florist and the Lakeside.

The final scene will then take place on a hill nearby.

“The idea was to get across what Jesus has suffered for each one of us,” said Pastor Stuart Wheatman, who will play the role of Jesus.

He added: “Many people really do not know the story of what happened and the play will help to understand what happened and why it happened.”

In Newport, St Paul’s Church on Commercial Street will lead a prayer walk from the steps of the church at 1pm.

There will then be prayers in the church at 2pm.
