A 47-YEAR-OLD man has died following a fatal two-car crash in Blaenavon last night.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to attend the incident on Cwmavon Road, Blaenavon yesterday at around 4.15pm.

Gwent Police initially said the incident involved three cars, but has since said it involved just two - a Peugeot 207 and a Subaru Impreza.

The driver of the Subaru, a 47-year-old man from the Abertillery area, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the red Peugeot, a 23-year-old woman from the Beaufort area, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Nevill hall hospital where she remains receiving treatment.

Cwmavon Road was closed in both directions between the Shop Road junction and the Capel Newydd Avenue junction. following the collision and was reopened at around 9.30pm.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 4.24pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A4043 between Cwmavon and Blaenavon.

"Two rapid response vehicles, two emergency ambulances and a BASICS doctor attended, and two people were taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny."

A Gwent Police spokesman said: "Specially trained officers are supporting the family and officers investigating the circumstances are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collison to ring Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 317."
