Crosskeys woman taken to hospital after kitchen fire

A WOMAN in her forties was taken to hospital early this morning after a kitchen fire in Crosskeys.

She was taken from the property on Risca Road to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation, a Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

Fire crews from New Inn and Duffryn put out the deliberate fire after being called at 12.26am. They left at 1.38am.

Probably as they are crewed by full time crews who can mobilise immediately where as the retained crews have to travel to the station first which takes a few minutes. Or the other crews may have been committed to other incidents. Reassuring to know that they got there soon enough to get the lady out before she succumbed to the smoke!

I would like a comment from the Chief Fire Officer as to why appliances were mobilised from Duffryn & New Inn to this incident when the Retained Appliance from Risca allowing a 5 minute response time would be at this address within 10 minutes and the same for the Abercarn appliance.
By using this crazy mobilising lives are being put at risk I was always under the impression that the nearest appliance in time and distance were mobilised.
Lets have a comment from the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service Management.

Maybe worth a twitter to ask them the reasons behind it, Newinn is a fair way from Crosskeys even under blue lights.
