AROUND 50 children took part in a sponsored toddle to raise money for charity Cure Rett.

Celtic Springs Day Nursery in Newport, held their annual event at the Celtic Springs Lake which saw around 50 of their children aged four and under toddle round the lake.

The fundraising event aimed to raise money for Rett Syndrome – a condition which causes severe physical and mental disabilities, after one child at the nursery was recently diagnosed with the condition.

Speaking ahead for the event, day centre manager Charlene Durston, said that the nursery hoped to raise £1,700 for the charity.

“We have been open seven years and it is an annual event,” she said.

“It is a sponsored toddle around the lake which usually takes up to 25 minutes.

“Last year we were raising money for the British Heart Foundation as one of our children had heart problems.

“We have 95 children at the nursery and lots of those who don’t normally come on a Friday will be coming to take part.”

She said that all of the children had been given sponsor forms and some children had managed to raise £200 each.

She added: “We are trying to raise awareness of the condition and do what we can to help.”
