A SIX-WEEK project launched by an Abertillery secondary school to design an electronic toy ended last night [Friday, July 11] in a presentation ceremony.
Twelve students from Abertillery Comprehensive School took part in the IT project, which saw rival teams design and create an electronic toy using a small computer.
The head of IT, Andy Parker, led the project, which was held in after-school sessions for year eight pupils aged 12 to 13.
Last night the project culminated in a presentation and prize ceremony to judge the toys.
Mr Parker said: “The students had to create an electronic toy using a small computer about the size of a cigarette box, which is then connected to an electronic device.”
Mr Parker said the small computer, which is called a Raspberry Pi, was designed to give digital access to school students.
He said: “One group of students designed a bilingual toy, which was able to speak in both English and Welsh.
“Another group designed a toy which was more suitable for younger children which was birds in a nest which talk.”
