Appeal launched for Gaza and Israel

First published in Gwent news

THE British Red Cross has launched an appeal to help provide medical assistance in Israel and Gaza.

The emergency appeal will support aid work to help people affected on both sides of the conflict, which has so far claimed more than 600 lives, including more than 500 civilians.

The British Red Cross has sent a specialist surgeon to Gaza to help medical staff and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) already on the ground as the number of casualties continues to rise.

Across the border in Israel, families have been forced to leave their homes amid sustained rocket fire.

"The images of suffering we are seeing from Gaza and Israel are appalling. It is heartbreaking to see so many families, on both sides of the border, torn apart by this conflict," said Katy Attfield, head of disaster management at the British Red Cross.

“The escalation of violence is dangerously impeding humanitarian access. It is vital that emergency services are able to function so they can reach those who desperately need our help.”

Appeal funds will support the Red Cross to provide critical assistance during this conflict and its aftermath. Donations can be made by telephoning 0845 054 7202, online at www.redcross.org.uk/gazaisrael or by post to British Red Cross, Gaza and Israel Appeal, 44 Moorfields, London, EC2Y 9AL.

America and the UK just voted in the UN against respecting Palestinian rights. Curiously Russia didn't, it just goes to show what a useless and very dubious set of politicians we have got in power. OK Hamas is a pathological nut case of a grouping, but Israel has had no effect on them only, killing near a 1,000 women and children. So that is a 1,000 more hamas followers they have created. Why haven't we an embargo against Israel ?

WHY? no amount of money or medical staff are going to help whilst they keep on blowing themselves up. The medical staff will be in danger because hospitals are being blown apart, come back and ask for donations when there is a permanent ceasefire, until then you are just throwing money away.

If the traditionally ECHR hating UK government's idea of respecting Palestinian rights is as half-hearted as its idea of respecting its own citizens' rights then it's probably not worth the paper it's written on anyway.

Just read this BBC headline.

"Palestinian militant group Hamas announces a 24-hour ceasefire after Israel ended an earlier truce amid continuing rocket fire from Gaza. "

Assuming I can read English doesn't this mean Hamas ended the first truce when THEY launched rockets?

Thinly veiled BBC bias is not what I pay my licence fee for. But to the case in point, do we know the reasons UK and US did what they di, or are we making assumptions.

I just wish they'd stop.

Russia doesn't need to vote. Everyone knows its KGB leader hasn't the foggiest idea of what the word "rights" means.
Your view is clearly that Israel should share the benefits of all the other countries of the Middle East with their Mohammedan chaos. Presumably if you lived in Israel you'd feel compelled to emigrate to Syria.

Obviously you don't follow the news and are ill informed. Have you heard the term human shield and seen the articles where Hamas force the civilians to stay in the places Israel intends to attack rather than move to the designated safe areas. Google Hamas summer camps (Images).

US has listed Hamas as a terrorist organisation, yet the US is about to give them 42 million dollars

Yes, so you said before. Repetition will not make it true. If you're so fussed , why don't you go and live in a free country like North Korea?
