ONE OF Newport's last remaining prefabs will be sold at auction this week.

Auction House South East Wales will be selling the 1940s detached property at auction on September 17.

Current owner Adam Singleton who has lived at the Ridgeway property for the last 25 years said he will be sad to see it 'knocked down' but said the land does have planning permission for two family homes as part of the surrounding areas redevelopment.

Built in the 1940s, the property has many original features including the kitchen, and features a living room, bathroom, two bedrooms, and a large garden.

Whoever buys this prefab and plot will have the option to refurbish the prefab or demolish it and build two three-bedroom houses in the plot.

The prefab is not listed, protected or of historical interest.

“It was built in the 1940s as part of the houses built for the heroes after the war.

“It is about 60 years old and I have lived here for 25 years.

“It needs redeveloping - someone to spend some money on it if they are going to live in it.

“Perhaps more insulation is needed.

“I have been very happy here for 25 years and with some redevelopment it will probably last another 25!

“There are a few prefabs left in Newport - there are three on Ridgeway Hill.

“We hope to sell it at a starting price of £100,000.”

Situated in a secluded location with vehicular and pedestrian access from a paved driveway to a corner plot with generous sized grounds, many of the prefab's original features still remain with ample opportunity to refurbish subject to the necessary planning permission and building regulations. The site has mains gas, electricity, water and mains drainage.

Mick Haywood, auction manager for Auction House South East Wales, said: “Selling through auction has become more popular over recent years as vendors look to ensure they get the best price for their commercial or residential properties.”

The sale is being held by Auction House at St Mellon’s Hotel and Country Club in Cardiff on September 17 at 5pm. Visit http://auctionhousewales.com
