PLAID Cymru’s deputy leader has said a Yes vote in Scotland would deliver fairer funding for Wales.

AM Elin Jones has hit out at Welsh politicians who are campaigning for a No vote, including the Welsh first minister Carwyn Jones, for joining a campaign that she claims will deprive Wales of the funding it needs.

She said that a Yes vote would allow Wales to re-negotiate constitutional and financial settlement with the UK government.

She said: “Without doubt, the first minister’s greatest dis-service to Wales, in fact his betrayal, is that he backed the No campaign even when that campaign pledged to retain the Barnett Funding Formula that under-funds the Welsh public purse by £300 million per year.

“Both Cameron and Miliband have pledged to retain the Barnett funding formula if there is a No vote. What other country’s national leader would work so obviously in its own worst interest?

“The Labour first minister and Labour MPs and AMs who support the No campaign have done so knowing that a No vote entrenches the Barnett funding formula and denies additional funding to our hospitals and schools for the foreseeable future.

“Every No train trip and every No tweet by a Labour MP or AM has with it a £300 million annual price tag to Wales. Wales needs fairness and equality and a Yes vote would enable us to set these negotiations in motion.

“I support a Yes vote for Scotland and a Yes vote is the best option for Wales also – a win-win result.”
