A NATIONAL campaign encouraging people to visit the shops and businesses on their local high street launches this weekend.

High Street Week is the focus of the Welsh Government’s ‘Support Your High Street’ campaign.

The aim is to raise the profile of high streets across Wales with street parties and fashion shows.

It is supported by the Federation of Small Businesses and the Welsh Retail Consortium, and the scheme encourages people to visit their high street.

Minister Lesley Griffiths, with responsibility for housing and regeneration, will visit businesses in Blaenavon, who are taking part in the campaign.

She will attend on Thursday.

She said: “In Wales we are lucky to have such diverse and vibrant high streets on our doorstep.

“Our high streets are much more than just a place where we can get our shopping done – they offer us local produce, a friendly smile and a real sense of community.

“This is why I am encouraging everyone to get involved in the campaign and support their high street by taking part in the many activities and events that have been organised during the week.”
