THE Welsh Government plans to do more to protect people living in social housing from domestic violence and anti-social behaviour with new legislation.
Lesley Griffiths AM, minister for communities and tackling poverty, said yesterday that the Gender-based Violence, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Bill is a continuing commitment for Welsh Government.
Within the bill there are recommendations that landlords will be able to speed up the eviction of anti-social tenants with secure or assured tenancies.
There will also be new absolute grounds for possession of houses when anti-social behaviour is involved while the bill will also enable domestic abusers to be evicted without having to end the tenancy for the victim.
The bill will propose the inclusion of a statutory ‘prohibited conduct’ term in every rental contract.
Mrs Griffiths said efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour seemed to be working, with seven per cent fewer recorded incidents in England and Wales in 2013-14 compared with the previous year.
