RSPCA inspectors have rescued a sheep which was stranded on a cliff in South Wales.

The female sheep had been stuck on a ledge at Rhossili Bay on the Gower for three to four days .

Rope rescue teams from England and Wales were brought together yesterday to carry out the rescue.

The team were able to set up around half way down the cliff and then abseiled down 30 metres (around 70-80 feet).

The team included five officers: Inspectors Richard Abbott, Rohan Barker, Neill Manley, Simon Evans and animal welfare officer Andrew Harris.

“The sheep was a bit weak because she had not had any food,” said inspector Abbott.

“She had probably been stuck there for three to four days.

“Andrew Harris jumped to catch her and we bagged and brought her up to safety.

“She was released somewhere safe near her flock at the top. We did a quick check of her and she just needed some food.”

Following a call from a member of the public, an RSPCA inspector searched for the sheep on Sunday, but was unable to find it.

On Monday inspector Neill Manley returned to the bay with the caller who pointed out exactly where the sheep was stuck.
