A BLACKWOOD couple choose a more unusual form of transport to get them to the church on time.

David and Sian Williams (nee James) wanted a Brace’s fun van as their wedding car before exchanging their vows on Saturday.

Mr and Mrs Williams, of Francis Street, Fleur-de-lys, were together for eight years before tying the knot at St David’s Church in the village.

The parents of Alys, four, and two year-old Ava, choose the date to coincide with their first date at the Wales V New Zealand game in 2006 and they wanted their transport to be just as special.

Mrs Williams said: “Every girl dreams of a horse and carriage to take her to the church, but it was really important for us to have something unique.”

“I initially mentioned having the Brace’s van as joke, but after a few emails back and for we were set on the idea.”

She had seen the vans following one of Brace’s school visits to Ysgol Cwm Derwen where at the time she was working as a teaching assistant.

“We managed to keep it a complete secret from all our family and friends so it was a bit of a shock to everyone on the day, which is exactly what we wanted.”

The Brace’s van collected the groom and best man and dropped them at the church, then later took the happy couple to their wedding reception.

Scott Richardson, sales and marketing director for Brace’s Bakery, “We have to admit this is one of the more unusual requests we have had for the use of our vans but at Brace’s we value family, so it was an easy yes. We are pleased to have had a part in making Sian and David’s day a memorable one.”
