A CWMBRAN car club and two motoring firms have raised £2,600 for charity.

Members of Forresters Car Club Limited, which meets at Croesyceiliog Cricket and Rugby Club, raised £1,600 by holding a car rally for St David’s Hospice Care in Malpas.

The event, organised by Shirley Saunders of the Forresters Car Club Ltd, was supported by Newtown Motors and Enterprise Cars. The remaining £1,000 was raised by Enterprise Cars.

The club, which formed in 1967 and has over 120 members, chooses a charity to support each year.

It held three motor sport events at a training base in Caerwent this year.

The cash was raised by holding a raffle, monthly quiz nights and with the support of Newtown Motors, who lent the club the use of its premises for a motorsport evening to take place.

Representatives from Newtown Motors, Enterprise Cars and the Forrester Car Club Ltd helped to present the cheque to Franca Nigro, events organiser for St David’s Hospice Care yesterday morning.

A spokeswoman for St David’s Hospice Care said: “We are extremely grateful for this generous donation. The event was very successful and we would like to thank all those involved.”
