THE WINNERS of the annual Christmas card competition led by Newport Council have been announced.

The competition saw dozens of entries narrowed down to just two winners and two runners up in two categories, with one entrant receiving a special commendation for their efforts.

The winner of the aged ten and under category was Wiktona Szweda, a class 5 pupil at St Gabriel’s school and the runner up was Georgia Damani from class Y4CC at St Julian’s Primary School.

The winner of the aged 11 and over category was Mya Oaten from class 7EEG/7T at Duffryn High School and the runner up was Lucy McDonald Class 7CXR/7T also from Duffryn High School.

Special commendation went to Jorja Howard from class 7VLP/7T at Duffryn High School.

The judging of the Christmas card competition took place last week and the prize giving ceremony was held on December 18 with the winners presented with their prizes in the mayor’s parlour.

Newport’s Mayor, councillor Matthew Evans, said: “I would like to thank everyone who entered the Christmas card competition.

“The entries were of an extremely high standard and it was difficult to choose the winners.

“I would like to congratulate all of those who entered and wish them all a very Merry Christmas."
