A FORMER bus inspector who used to work on the frontline helping commuters using the buses of Newport will now be responsible for the city’s entire municipal bus network after becoming one of the UK’s youngest ever elected board directors of a bus company.

Morgan Stevens, who is still only 29, has been appointed as the new Operations Director of Newport Transport – the third biggest city bus operator in Wales.

He will be responsible for managing one of country’s largest bus networks covering an operating area of more than 250 square miles and delivering more than seven million passenger journeys a year across 50 services.

Mr Morgan, of Cwmbran, has been with the company for less than five years, but in the time has impressed bosses working his way up the managerial ladder. In 2011 he was promoted to Commercial Officer before later that year being made the company’s youngest ever Operations Manager.

Having successfully managed the municipal bus operator’s move from a single bus fare structure to zonal fares he was promoted to Senior Operations Manager where he led the introduction of real time service information for passengers.

As Operations Director he will be responsible for Newport Transport’s entire bus operation, which includes more than 100 buses and 154 bus drivers. He has been tasked by the company’s board with further developing Newport Transport’s successful bus network and increasing revenue generated through its popular private hire and day trips business.

Mr Morgan said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Newport Transport’s new Operations Director.

“When I joined the company in 2010 I was told by our managing director that there would be opportunities for me to expand my career here if I worked hard. Since then I’ve embraced the opportunities given to me and developed my knowledge and skillset managing a number of important and successful projects. This has given me the industry understanding and customer knowledge that I need to deliver the aspirations of the company’s board, which are for the city of Newport to have one of the country’s finest bus networks.”
