JESSOPS Photography Store is looking for photographers of all ages and abilities to enter their Photographer of the Year competition.

The Newport store, based in Sainsbury’s at Albany Street, is holding a series of monthly photography competitions throughout 2015. Each month, there will be a different theme and January's theme is black and white photographs.

The winners of the monthly competitions will have their photographs displayed in the store for a month and they will then be entered into the overall Photographer of the Year competition in December.

There are a number of prizes on offer for the overall winner, including a variety of camera accessories, a six-week photography course, and an experience day.

The six-week course, worth £129, offers the winner the chance to learn about the fundamentals of photography within Jessops' store.

The experience day, based at either the Cat Survival Trust in Hertfordshire or the Feather Perfect Falconry in Shropshire, will give the winner the opportunity to photograph exotic animals in a safe environment.

Richard Tippett, the store’s manager, said: “It’s not about the rule of thirds, lighting or focus; it’s about the interpretation of the theme and it being a nice image.

"Anyone could win, from children to experts."
