A TORFAEN council mobile app which enables residents to report issues and request services from their tablets and smartphones has been nominated for a prestigious national award.

The Digital Leaders 100 Awards recognises people and organisations that are using digital technology to transform the UK’s public services and its social and economic opportunities.

The council’s mobile app, which launched a year ago, has enabled thousands of residents to access council services from their mobile phones or tablets at a time and place that suit them.

Since its launch, more and more services have been added from setting up direct debits and applying for benefits to requesting recycling bags and boxes and reporting flytipping.

Residents who report issues on the website or app can then track their progress of their request on the app and receive emails when the report is updated.

Councillor Gwyneira Clark, executive member for housing, planning and public protection, said:

“We’re delighted that Torfaen has been recognised as one of the UK’s Digital Leaders. Our mobile app is a great example of how we’re using digital technology to improve services for our residents, providing them with an easier, faster and more convenient way of contacting the council.

“We’re seeing its usage growing week by week as more and more services are added and it has quickly established itself as one of the most important ways for people to contact the council."
