THE family and friends of an 'inspirational' Caerphilly woman took part in a charity walk in her memory.

Around 180 people were part of the 10 mile walk from Gilwern to Llangynidr on Saturday which was in memory of Wendy Rees, who died last year aged 50 from breast cancer.

The family are aiming to raise £10,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre where Mrs Rees received care. Mrs Rees, of Princess Crescent, Trinant, was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

She was a production manager at RF Brookes in Rogerstone.

Stacey Rees, 32, Wendy's daughter, said: "It was a really good atmosphere. We really wanted to do something in memory of my mother Wendy Rees.

"It was a fantastic day - the sun was shining and everybody enjoyed themselves."

She added: "My nan who is in her late 70's completed the walk. She was offered a lift half way but she refused and carried on walking."

A evening of entertainment was also held to raise funds at Trinant Sports and Social Club on Saturday evening which 300 people attended.

Ms Rees said: "We wanted to raise the money for Velindre as they were amazing to my mum. They not only supported her but the family as well."

"My mum was such an inspirational lady. She had her own battle but she would be there to support and help others."

She added: "She was a very thoughtful person who was alway making other people happy. She was a very kind lady who loved her children and grandchildren."
