FIRE chiefs are probing a suspected arson at a derelict building in Pill.
Firefighters spent more than two hours tackling the fire in East Market Street, Newport, on Sunday night.
A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said yesterday the fire was believed to be deliberate.
No-one was injured.
Three fire engines, a hydraulic platform and a water bowser were used at the height of the fire, the spokeswoman said.
Crews from Maindee, Duffryn and Malpas attended the fire after receiving a call at 6.49pm and it was brought under control at 9.02pm.
The blaze affected a two-storey building which appeared to be derelict commercial premises.
Witnesses reported seeing huge plumes of smoke.
