THE owners of an Abergavenny boutique helped to raise more than £25,000 for charity by cycling 1,000 miles from John O Groats to Lands End.

Marion Challenor and her daughter Coryn Price, who own Baroque Boutique on Cross Street, took part in the Cycling for Bryan challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MDNA)

The pair swapped fashion for fitness to complete the challenge earlier this month after Mrs Challenor’s husband Bryan was diagnosed with the condition a year ago.

Mrs Challenor and Mr Challenor’s step-daughter Miss Price joined the team of seven friends on the leg from Shrewsbury to Abergavenny.

Mrs Challenor, the boutique's managing director, said: “I am thrilled with the support we have received and the money we have raised so far for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. We set a target of £20,000 for the bike ride and have already exceeded this and raised over £25,000. On the final day of the ride we travelled to Cornwall to cheer on the team through the finishing line and the atmosphere was electric.”

Miss Price, director and senior stylist at the boutique, added: “The team trained incredibly hard for such a worthy cause and every penny raised will make a huge difference.”

They have set an overall fundraising target of £50,000. The next event is a charity ball and silent auction in Shropshire on May 30 which has sold out.

If they meet the target of £50,000, this will be the highest amount ever raised for one person who has contracted the disease.
