POLICE are following a number of enquiries in Blaina and on the Isle of Wight as concerns grow for the welfare of a Gwent pensioner.

Michael Davies, 71, of Blaina was on holiday with his wife on the island when he went missing shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

Mr Davies was visiting the island as part of a coach trip when he went missing. He was last seen on CCTV walking along Avenue Road in Sandown at 1am on Wednesday morning.

WightSAR volunteers, Marine Unit officers and the NPAS have been assisting police with the search in and around the Sandown area.

Hampshire Police is asking members of the public on the island to check gardens, sheds and outbuildings in case Mr Davies has taken refuge in there and fallen asleep, or may even have become unwell or unable to call out for help.

The force is sharing its appeal with mainland ports, ferry and transport terminals, particularly in the Lymington, Portsmouth and Southampton area, in case Michael has got confused and tried to go home.

He was last seen wearing jeans, a blue T-shirt, a blue Reebok jumper and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Isle of Wight Investigation team on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
