A CARING Newport teenager has raised £100 for Cancer Research UK after he had his head shaved by his aunt.

Louis Barrett, 13, from Nash Road, decided to undergo the dramatic transformation after a couple of his classmates from Lliswerry High School were diagnosed with the disease.

Louis, who works as a volunteer with St John Ambulance, sent off for his fundraising pack and sponsorship forms last month and has since had 20 signatures.

Having let his hair grow down into his eyes, his aunt, Elaine Dalton, 43, and mother, Tracey Barrett, 48, were there to see Louis through on Tuesday.

Speaking after his selfless act, he said: “It went really well. It took a little bit of time to get all the hair off.

“I’m a bit refreshed and surprised that I actually did it. I’m very pleased with it.

“A couple of people I know suffered from cancer so I thought I could do something to help out and raise money for Cancer Research UK. It’s really good.”

Louis mother, Tracey, added: “He likes doing things for other people. He's like that. If he can help, he will.

“A lot of people won’t do things like that. He’s just marvellous.

“He’s the type of person…it doesn’t bother him. It really doesn’t. He’ll do anything.

“He’s a good boy. We didn’t prompt him or anything. It was all his idea.

“I’m very proud.”
