A man has died following the crash today in Abergavenny. The pedestrian was hit by a car between the Hardwick Roundabout and Llanellen Bridge.
Police say the A4042 is likely to remain closed "for a substantial period of time".
UPDATE: 2.46pm
The incident is now being reported as a 'fatal' crash.
A4042 between Hardwick Rbt and Llanellen is closed, due to a fatal road accident the road will be closed for some hours.

The Wales Air Ambulance was called in following the accident on the A4042.
An ambulance was also sent to the scene after the call was made at 11.46am.

The A4042 is closed in Abergavenny after a pedestrian was hit by a car.
The incident happened between the Hardwick roundabout and Llanellen.
A diversion is in operation: Southbound traffic to travel east on the A40 to Raglan, then south on the A449, west on the M4 to J25a, then re-join the A4042 at the Grove Park Roundabout to head north to Llanellen. Northbound traffic should travel inthe opposite direction.
