THE death of an elderly retired government officer was accidental, an inquest found.
85-year-old Edith Rose Naden was taken to hospital on September 19 this year following a fall at her home in Monmouth.
She suffered sustained bruising and was taken to Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny.
An inquest into her death was held by Gwent coroner David Bowen.
It heard how a few days after being admitted to hospital, Mrs Naden’s condition deteriorated and she died on October 6.
A post mortem into her death was carried out by Geraint Evans at Nevill Hall.
He found an underlying cause of her death was fractured ribs.
Giving evidence, Gwent Police coroner officer, Detective Constable Jon Lewis said: “There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
Mr Bowen said: “In view of the evidence I have heard I’m satisfied the injuries which were the underlying cause of her death were sustained in a wholly accidental form. Her death was accidental.”
