A MAN standing trial for a string of alleged indecent assaults abused a young girl on more than one occasion, a court heard.
Robert Wood, of Caerleon Road, Newport, allegedly abused the girl when she was under 10 years old, Newport Crown Court heard on the second day of his trial.
Wood, 78, faces 11 counts of indecent assault a years ago against three victims.
He denies all the charges.
The alleged victim, the second the court has heard from, said she had no notion of sex at the time, the court heard earlier today.
She told police how she felt ashamed after she realised what had happened..
She told officers: "Sometimes now I just want to block out everything.
"If anyone ever mentions him I don't want to know.
"It's as if he doesn't exist."
The woman told how years later, she fought off Wood when he kissed her on New Year's Eve.
But she said she could not remember the smell of alcohol on him.
The court heard how she carried the alleged abuse with her into adulthood but said she had received support from her partner.
Cross-examining the victim, defence barrister Huw Wallace said: "Do you think it is possible you were never abused at all and you're making it up whether it be intentionally or otherwise?"
She replied "No" twice.
Proceeding.
