GWENT Police have released a second direct appeal to the mother of the baby whose body was found in Newport last Friday.

Officers were called to land near Imperial Park in Coedkernew after the baby's body was discovered at around 1.55pm on Friday, January 29.

Police released a video earlier this week appealing for the mother of the baby to get in contact with them on 07646653227.

Yesterday they issued a second direct appeal with concerns the mother may be in need of medical help.

Police said they know the mother likely gave birth naturally and was probably alone.

Lucy, of Gwent Police, says in the video: "I'm really worried about the mum and I want you to know that if you feel you can speak to me then we can offer you all the help and support that you need.

"We're really keen to find a name for your baby but we want to make sure that's its one you would like. Maybe, you've already named your little one and you'd like to tell me?

"I know that you care for your new-born baby because you wrapped your baby in a towel. I also know that you gave birth naturally and you were possibly alone.

"Maybe you're in need of medical help and you feel that you need to contact somebody to obtain this.

"I understand that you are frightened and that you may be scared of what may happen to you.

"If you feel that you can contact me, then please call me on 07572 153381. If you don't feel that you can call me, then maybe you could drop me a text or alternatively maybe you could ask a relative or friend that you can confide in to do so on your behalf. Thank you."
