THE Newport Medieval Ship has a new sponsor and already the visitor centre at Queensway Meadows Industrial Estate is seeing the benefits.

Hempel UK, the Cwmbran-based branch of the international paint manufacturer, helps protect man-made structures from the corrosive forces of nature.

Their paint has now been used to seal and protect the warehouse floor in the ship centre thanks to the tireless efforts of the centre’s volunteers.

The new light grey finish to the floor makes the whole building feel light and brighter.

Nic Frowen, managing director of Hempel UK, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Newport Medieval Ship project.

"Given Hempel’s maritime history and the long association the company has with Newport, we really felt we had to support the volunteers in any way we could.

“Hempel will continue to work with the volunteers to support the project in the future and we look forward to one day seeing the ship restoration completed and the ship on full display.”

Hemel UK’s sponsorship certificate was presented by Phil Cox, chairman of the Friends of Newport Ship.

The ship centre is open at 10.30am-4.30pm every Friday, Saturday and bank holiday Monday until the end of October 2016.
