THREE Gwent scouts were honoured by feted adventurer Bear Grylls at Windsor Castle after they achieved the highest honour in their movement.

Bethanie Headworth, from Usk, and Tabitha Attwood and Sian Carrel, both from Newport, were awarded the Queen’s Scout Award by Chief Scout Mr Grylls on April 24.

The award is achieved by young people between 16 and 25 who have served in their community, completed an expedition in wild country, lived for five days in an unfamiliar environment and learned a new skill.

They were three of 650 who achieved the gong from around the country.

Mr Grylls said: "All these young people have lived the adventure of a lifetime to achieve their Queen’s Scout Awards, and I admire that spirit so much. They are huge inspirations to over half a million Scouts in the UK and I am so pleased that Scouting has honoured them today. They are amazing.”
